Principal Investigator

• Associate professor Masateru Maeda (ORCiD; researchmap; Google Scholar)

Research Interest

• I have been studying the biomechanics of flight (insects, birds), in particular their wing morphology, wing flapping kinematics, and the unsteady aerodynamics for generating lift (and drag).

• My main tool for the research is compuational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. I have used various experimental methods as well, including high-speed cameras, particle image velocimetry (PIV), wind tunnel, or X-ray microtomography (μCT).

• In the current lab, we are working also on the external fluid dynamics of plants, which is largely unchard region in the biomechanics in my opiniion and can potentially have a huge impact on both academic and possibly even in industries in the future.

Our Mission and Usage Policy

This platform (maz-lab.org) is managed for the following educational and research purposes:

• Education of Students: We provide an IT infrastructure for undergraduate and graduate students at Takushoku University to support their academic research and learning.

• Safe Use of Advanced Technology: We aim to provide a secure environment for students to use advanced technologies, including generative AI (e.g., Gemini), ensuring that research data and privacy are strictly protected and not used for external machine learning.

• Non-Profit Research: All activities on this domain are non-profit and dedicated to academic advancement.
