Bio-fluid dynamics lab (Maeda lab, or mazlab), Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Takushoku University.
A short lab description on the official University domain (in Japanese)
Associate professor Masateru Maeda (ORCiD; researchmap; Google Scholar)
I have been studying the biomechanics of flight (insects, birds), in particular their wing morphology, wing flapping kinematics, and the unsteady aerodynamics for generating lift (and drag).
My main tool for the research is compuational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. I have used various experimental methods as well, including high-speed cameras, particle image velocimetry (PIV), wind tunnel, or X-ray microtomography (μCT).
In the current lab, we are working also on the external fluid dynamics of plants, which is largely unchard region in the biomechanics in my opiniion and can potentially have a huge impact on both academic and possibly even in industries in the future.
This platform (maz-lab.org) is managed for the following educational and research purposes:
Education of Students: We provide an IT infrastructure for undergraduate and graduate students at Takushoku University to support their academic research and learning.
Safe Use of Advanced Technology: We aim to provide a secure environment for students to use advanced technologies, including generative AI (e.g., Gemini), ensuring that research data and privacy are strictly protected and not used for external machine learning.
Non-Profit Research: All activities on this domain are non-profit and dedicated to academic advancement.
